About me

I design and make wheel thrown ceramic homewares using personally formulated glazes, ensuring that no two pieces are the same.

I graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design in the mid 1990’s with a degree in ceramics, specialising in mould making. I explored the embodiment of the human image through clay. This led me into a sixteen year career in the theatre, film and television industry. I firstly worked in costume and then as a hair and make-up artist for many varied  productions. A vibrant and rewarding chapter, grounded me in visual storytelling and craftsmanship.

My passion for making eventually brought me back to ceramics, where I work from my garden studio in South Wales, creating unique and continually evolving pieces. My process is guided by a fascination with glazes and the forms that best complement them. Using a wide range of making techniques like, slip casting, hand building, throwing and a combination of all of these to create specifically designed forms for the glaze to interact with.

My current focus is on zinc sillicate crystalline glazes. I’m particularly drawn to one of their characteristics, which is to grow delicate clusters of small crystals during the firing and cooling cycle. They offer endless possibilities to investigate how subtle changes in chemistry and firing conditions influence colour, pattern and ultimately creative expression.
